TICATS SET 2008 COACHING STAFF

Hamilton, Ontario
– The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that with the addition of John Kropke as defensive line coach and Chip Garber as defensive backs coach, the team’s coaching staff is complete.

“I’m very excited to work with this group of coaches,” said head coach Charlie Taaffe. “Our 2008 staff features coordinators who bring extensive CFL knowledge on all sides of the ball, some returning coaches who did an excellent job for us last season, as well as John and Chip who we feel are great additions to the team.”

Kropke has spent the past two seasons serving as defensive line coach with the Montreal Alouettes, after one season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the same capacity. Kropke began his coaching career with Illinois’ Eureka College in 2001 after a nine-year CFL career in which he was named an East Division All-Star four times.

Garber joins the Ticats after most recently serving as assistant coach and wide receivers coach with North Texas following a two-year stint at Hofstra as defensive backs coach. Garber has also enjoyed coaching stints at West Point, Virginia Military Institute, Minnesota, TCU, Kentucky and SMU.

The coaching staff will once again be led by Taaffe, two-time CFL Coach of the Year, who returns for his second season at the helm of the Black and Gold.

Offensively, Marcel Bellefeuille enters his first season with the Ticats after two seasons with the Alouettes and five with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Jeff Bleamer (offensive line coach) and Dennis Goldman (receivers coach) will return to their respective roles after their first season in Hamilton.

On defence, Denny Creehan takes over the reins after four seasons as defensive coordinator with the Calgary Stampeders.

Special teams coordinator Dave Easley will also return to the Ticats for his 16th season as a CFL coach.
