TICATS LAND RB JOHN WILLIAMS FROM ARGOS

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has acquired non-import running back John Williams from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for future considerations.

“We feel John is a solid acquisition as he’s a local guy who provides depth to our running back position and he’s a great special teams player,” said general manager Bob O’Billovich.

Williams, a 6-0, 191-pound native of Millgrove, Ontario suited up in 17 games for the Argonauts last season, making 17 special teams tackles while recording two carries and one reception for three yards. Drafted by the B.C. Lions in the fourth round (31st overall) of the 2002 CFL Canadian Draft, Williams played one season with B.C. before spending the 2003 season on the Edmonton Eskimos practice roster. Williams has spent the past four seasons in Toronto after signing with the Argonauts in 2004.

In 77 career games, Williams has recorded 24 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown while making four receptions for 31 yards. He has also been a strong contributor on special teams, making 62 special teams tackles.
