Leif Pettersen 1950 -2008

Leif Pettersen 1950 -2008

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are mourning the loss of former player Leif Pettersen who passed away last night.

"Though best known as a prolific receiver with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Leif enjoyed four productive seasons with the Ticats to end his career," said president Scott Mitchell. "After a terrific playing career, he went on to become a great ambassador and spokesman for the league, including a long and distinguished career as a television personality, where he was a natural. On a personal note, Leif was a trusted friend and confidant. Always an optimist, he had an infectious attitude and demeanour and one never left a meeting or social occasion with him with anything but a smile and a positive outlook. He was truly one of the good guys in the sports business. Leif has been a great friend to the Ticats organization and on behalf of everybody within our organization we would like to extend our sympathies to the Pettersen family."

Pettersen joined the Ticats in 1978 after spending the first four years of his career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Pettersen was named an All-Star in and was the runner-up for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian award after leading the East in receptions in 1979.

Following his eight-year playing career, Pettersen began working with TSN as a game analyst in 1986. In addition to his role at TSN, Pettersen worked at RBC Sports Professionals & Private Client Group as Director of Business Development, managing banking and investments for more than 800 athletes, coaches and sports executives across North America.

How many Fans do the Ticats Really Have?

How many Fans do The Hamilton Tigercats Really have?
I am talking about Fans in the seats at I.W.S.
20,000 is My Guess.

These are hard Core Fans who come out threw good and bad Times.
Who buy there Tickets and come out... every Season.
To me these are real Fans who come and pay to support the team.

Then We have soft-core fans
Who are Here only if we are winning .
These fans are just looking for Next best thing

So if your winning could be hockey football ect.
You get these Fans out.
There are not real fans
they are Band Wagon Fans.
I say we have 4,000 of these kinds of Fans.

Then we have the casual fan 1 or 2 games a year
they make up the rest of our fan Base.

The Ticats Say Tigertown Goes From Burlington in East to the Falls South West
To Brantford and to Guelph.

If that is so the why are we only getting only 20,000 -22,000 a Game?

Here is Why :
(1)Not winning
(2) Higher prices other Mistakes my Management(blackouts ect)
(3) Lack of Ways to get tickets Some people don't like ticket master
(4) No Team Identity with fans.

I could go on but you get the idea.
Could this be the future of ticats Football in 5 Years?

A Empty I.W.S

Ticats Video Update on Printers

Casey is day to day with Sore thumb.
I don't think He'll play this week
I think Ritchie will play
He'd be backed up by Clinton Porter and Timmy Chang
Tony Miles did not Practice either
so we may see Jojo Walker again this week.
Ticats Cut Clinton Wayne and Korry Dickerson Today
I am sorry to see both Go.
Both are fine young men

Now for the video .
As We Know The Ticats lost to Edmonton 13 16
I see decided to due quick video
It is a Video of Both Teams Entering the Stadium
Enjoy

No love for Hoggies as they Give up 8 Sacks.

I am Big Fan of Ticats O-line or The Hoogiees But not Tonight ..
A Line that has been great Under Line coach Jeff Bleamer
They been very Very good
But not Last night .
Very Disappointing .

The Hoogies are normal Great Run Blockers
Edmonton's Plan work Here what they Planned.
when I went to watch the Practice for Edmonton at Mac
They where not worried about pass at all.
They Basically wanted to Stuff the line with players
Daring Hamilton to pass.
It Worked...

The Eskimos Held Jessie to under 55 Yards and 1 TD.
When they went Back to pass Printers had little time.
Durring the 2nd half he feel on throwing hand and Damaged his Thumb.
He count not continue and Ritchie Willams Finished the game.

With another Short Week ahead I don't Chances going to Montreal.
After WK 6 We could be 2-4 or 1-5 I am hoping for 2 and 4.
Here are this Week Photos I took at Game Click here

I Miss the Ironmen of Football

Back in Granddad Day He talk about the Ironmen of Pro football.
The people who never leave the field.
They play offence Defence and Special Teams

There are no Iron man in the CFL .
The game has changed sadly
It now game of Specialist from Kicker to Guy who covers kicks.

I how love to see an Iron man just one last time.
The only time I saw one was The Greycup
The Roughriders vs Hamilton at Skydome back in 1989.
Early Winfield due Injury Play all 3 Parts of Game.
He played Wide Receiver
He Ran Back Kicks.
He was also a DB Due Injury.

One of my Favorite Moves has to do with playing Iron man football
Called , Necessary Roughness is one of the best sports movies ever made.

After a cheating scandal left the program with only seventeen players, the Fightin’ Armadillos chose to play ‘iron man football’ or in Lehman’s terms, players played both ways(offense and defense). Check it out on video .

I miss the Iron Man but there day is gone :(

Game Day WK 5

Tiger-Cats vs. Eskimos: July 25, 2008

vs.

It is Ticats game day again Here is all The Info You need
Remember the Game is Black out Locally

WHAT – Tiger-Cats Game day: Tiger-Cats vs. Eskimos.

WHO - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Edmonton Eskimos.

WHY – To see if the Ticats can avoid being tied for last place in their division, and potentially be tied for first place in their division at the end of this week.

WHERE - Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario.

WHEN - Friday, July 25th, at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

HOW - Radio: CHML (900 kHz AM) and Y108 (107.9 MHz FM) broadcasting from Hamilton.

Television: TSN. Local blackouts are in effect. The game is available in HD.

Internet: Visit www.900chml.com and click the "listen live" link, or simply click here to listen to CHML now.
Or visit www.y108.ca and click the "listen live" link there, or simply click here to listen to Y108 now.

Click here to view the game preview here on Ticats.ca. For information on the game.

Click here to view the game preview on Ticats TV.

Click here to view the Tiger-Cats depth chart. Good to see Lumsden back on it.

Click here to view the interactive version of the Tiger-Cats depth chart.

Click here for the Esks depth chart.

Click here for tonight's weather forecast. Right now, there is a 10% probability of precipitation this evening and southwest winds of 15 km/h are expected. And at this time, it is expected that the temperature will be about 23°C.

The Bombers winning yesterday means that the Ticats could be tied with them for last place after this week. But a Ticat win combined with losses by the Als and the blue team would put the Ticats tied for first in their division. It was said in the Ticats TV game preview that the Esks have not won a game at IWS since 2003. And considering the importance of this game, that trend had better continue. And so all I can say after saying this is...

Go Ticats!

Thanks to Bob Young fan for this Info

Players that need to be Replace now

After the Disgraceful Job in Calgary it Time for Heads to roll
They could even keep it Respectful Loss Getting Blow out for 2ND Time This Season
Unacceptable

Creehan's defence is Bad Real Bad..

Let Start with the Defensive Line No Push no Pressure They need to be Replaced
Linebackers There is Reason Zeke was cut from the NFL too Slow .
With Out Armour back there we see he not as good as Everyone thought
We'll Armour is Playing the middle in Calgary and looks Great ..

The DB's

To Quote a Friend "Secondary...How long does it take for them to realize that all teams will go after Gordon...he must be replaced...potential only goes so far...Bradley is fine, and Thompson and Robinson are ok but we can improve there....Glasper hasn't made any plays at safety and in my opinion it isnt even his proper position.. " Could not agree More.. we need help back there.

Coach Denny Creehan .
During Camp I ask a Few Former ticats what they Thought of the Hire of Creehan.
Most thought he was Wrong Guy for the Job.
One went as Far as to say Both Offence and Defence coordinator where Wrong Hirer.
Maybe they where right .. I was not a fan of Creehand D in 1st place.

I am PISSED .... as a Season Ticket Hold I Want Close Games..
I am Tired every Year we get Blowen out in 1 2 3 4 games a year.
It has to end..

I love the guys but Right now I am Mad as Hell..

Nightmare in Cowtown

Really don't want to say so I will keep it short and Sour.
The Ticats went to Calgary on a Short Week and it showed..
Without There Best Player Running back Lumsden on The Field
The Ticats where never in the Game..
Getting blow out 43 to 16 in a Ugly Game .

Nothing Went Right Printers lost the 1st Snap of the game
Tre Smith Fumbles the next time we had the ball
the offence could get it going early It cost us.

The Stamps offence was on Fire.
The Ticats had no answer and no Pressure on The Stampeers QB Smiling Hank..
The DB without Pressure from Front 8 Looked bad.
Gordon has to go .

Frankly I am Disappointed by the Effort..

Tiger-Cats vs. Stampeders: July 17, 2008

vs.

It has only been five days since the last game played by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. But Tiger-Cats gameday is here once again. who will win
We shall see.

WHAT – Tiger-Cats Gameday: Tiger-Cats vs. Stampeders.

WHO - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Calgary Stampeders.

WHY – To see if the Ticats can demonstrate that they are "for real" and to improve their chances of continuing to be in second place in their division.

WHERE - McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta.

WHEN - Thursday, July 17th, at 9:00 p.m. EDT. (7:00 p.m. local time.)

HOW - Radio: CHML (900 kHz AM) and Y108 (107.9 MHz FM) broadcasting from Hamilton.

Television: TSN. The game is available in HD.

Internet: Visit www.900chml.com and click the "listen live" link, or simply click here to listen to CHML now.
Or visit www.y108.ca and click the "listen live" link there, or simply click here to listen to Y108 now.

Click here to get CFL.ca's live scoreboard for recent games. You can click the link to view this game's scoreboard whenever it becomes available, likely just after the opening kickoff.

Click here to view the game preview here on Ticats.ca. It says there that Jesse Lumsden and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats travel to Calgary... but other than that, this page is a great place to get information on the game.

Click here to view the game preview on Ticats TV. I thought what Taaffe had to say about preparation for this game was interesting.

Click here to view the Tiger-Cats depth chart. Interesting to see Rodriguez listed as a starting WR ahead of Cohen and Wilson (and Bauman not listed as a starter on it.) Dyakowski is also listed ahead of Cavka at LG, probably because of the Lumsden injury and that import/non-import ratio thing. Also interesting to see Miles and Woodcock listed on special teams.

Click here for the Stamps depth chart. Interesting to see Ben Sankey on it (I thought he was released.) And seeing four former Ticats starting on their D makes me want to see our offence do well against them. I do not want to hear about how those four "came back to haunt us" after this game is over.

Click here for tonight's weather forecast. Right now, there is a 60% probability of precipitation this evening and there is a risk of thunderstorms. Southeast winds of 10 km/h are expected. And at this time, it is expected that the temperature is expected to be about 19°C.

The Ticats may be taken more seriously after looking impressive in two of their three regular season games. But victory in Calgary will not come easily. It has been said that it is important for the Ticats to get this season off to a good start. And even though they will not be winless after four games this year, 1-3 is not much different from 0-4. It is quite possible that the team will be 1-3 after this one, with Lumsden out with an injury. But remember that the last time these teams met, the Ticats came from behind to win while Printers was out with an injury. It would be good to see.

To Resign or not Resign that is the Question

So Jesse is hurt again and will miss the Game in Calgary
Since his High school Day J.L has never played a Full Season of Football
Blessed with Huge Talent

Maybe The Best Canadian Running Back to play in Ages in The CFL.
But He can he stay Healthy that is the Question?
For a Player Entering his Option Year .
He needs to stay Healthily to get a Big Pay Day
Ether with The Ticats or Any Team north or south of the boarder.

His Running Style will Causes him Miss games
IMO He needs Play 15 Games a year to Be Resigned by Hamilton.
There are Amercian Backs who can stay Healthy
Who are hungry for work ..

so If Jesse can play 15 Games Resign the kid .
If not say Bye bye ..

1908 was not our 1st Grey cup Champs IMO.

We all know The Ticats Celebrating 1908 Hamilton Tiger as our 1st Grey Cup Champs
I Disagree here is my Point
Read this
http://www.nationalpost.com/related/topics/story.html?id=615943

"It was also the final championship played before the advent of the Grey Cup. Sir Albert Henry George Grey, the ninth Governor General of Canada, had actually hoped to donate a trophy to the senior men's hockey championship, but was a step behind Sir H. Montague Allan, who created what is now known as the Allan Cup.

So, in 1909, Earl Grey settled on football.

The University of Toronto went on to win each of the first three Grey Cups, and refused to return the trophy after the club was knocked out of championship contention in 1912. Three more years passed before the school surrendered the trophy.

The Tigers won in 1915 and, with the cup liberated, they decided to seek a little revenge. They commissioned a plate for the 1908 Hamilton team, and had it fastened to the base of the Grey Cup - even though the trophy was not awarded for the first time until 1909."

Our 1st Grey Champs was the 1912 Hamilton Alerts
Imo They where 1st Hamilton team to Hold The Grey Cup after winning it
They Makes them our 1st Grey Cup Champs .

Not 1908 Team there where Dominion champions but Grey Cup Champs
adding The 1908 was just a Prank by 1915 Tigers.

Roomer Ticats Cut Jojo

There is a Roomer Ticats Have Cut Jojo Walker..
It could just be There are just Cuting him to added Jojo to the Practice Roster
2008-07-15 Tiger-Cats Transaction
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released Import WR Jo Jo Walker. The club transferred to disabled Non-Import LB Matt Robichaud.

CFL Leader Rusher to have a MRI?

Roomer are out the Ticats Running back Jesse Lumsden will have MRI Today
He may miss the Game in Calgary . The Ticats won't Comment on it at this time
Lumsden was Given the day off Yesterday and had on knee Brace at Practice today

If Jesse Can not play then There is a good Chance Tre Smith will Start
Also Terry Caulley will come off Injury List to also Play

Lumsden Leads the CFL In Rushing going into Week 3.

JL Player for week again

LUMSDEN EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would like to congratulate running back Jesse Lumsden for being named the Canadian Football League’s Canadian Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Lumsden carried the ball 19 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns while adding one reception for 15 yards during the Ticats loss to Saskatchewan last Saturday.

The McMaster product currently leads the CFL with 362 rushing yards and has also scored four touchdowns.

Ticats receiver Chris Bauman was a runner-up for Canadian Player of the Week after posting eight receptions for 90 yards against the Roughriders.

Ticats Add Longsnaper

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed non-import long snapper/linebacker Tyson Craiggs.

Craiggs played three seasons (2005-07) with the B.C. Lions, recording 34 special teams tackles while serving as the team’s long snapper.

The Saskatchewan product joined the Montreal Alouettes development roster earlier this year after attending training camp with the Lions.

Is The Roar is Back in Hamilton?

The Roar is back in Tigertown.
We had a Morel victory but I would rather 2 points and a Win.
This game was still something to build on.

you can see this Team is not a Team of Quitters
To Quote “Al Pacino any given sunday coach " Tony Demoto"

"
On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.
I'll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know
if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face." ( go here to see the Clip of this )

This Ticat Team will Live Die for that Inch..
I expect a Team who Very Souls will Hurt from that loss.
They well Bring the Pain to Cowtown.
Not wanting to lose again.

Now as for This Game Let me brake this one down :

(1) Timing with Our WR needs Work
Two Long Passes to Miles could have been TD if the Timing was better
That will come with Time and Effort But it well Come..

(2) Pressure with our Front 4 needs to be Addressed.
I am sure Obie is on the lookout for Help here.

(3) Great Blocking not only For run But the Pass
The Blitz pick also was done real well.
On the 1st TD by Jesse It look like Bunch formation
They Just Jam line Then Jesse Picks his hole.

(4) Linebacker Markeith Knowlton has Gave us a Good Sam Linebacker.
Something we searched for last year in Vane.
He is a tackling Machine and Near The league leader in Tackles
He had a Great Game

(5) We have Learned to win Field Position Game .
This was a Problem last year
it as been fixed this year
We started our Drives on are own 42 Yard line by Average
Will The Riders whereon there own 24 by Average
Great Work.

(6) The Return of Pat Woodcock Obie's Gamble on Signing Pat so far has Paid Off Well.
I was not a fan of him at Camp
But He has Won me over with His Gutsy Style of play

(7) Casey Printers His Leadership
His Ability to make something out of nothing
This has been a great Help this year.
I see only Good things for Casey If He Stays Healthy.

(8) Chris Bauman last year I called him Butter fingers Bauman.
Chris Worked hard all off season in the Weight Room
He Spent Time with Casey learning to become a slot back.
It has Paid off so Far
No Longer is He Butter fingers Bauman.
I will Call his suction cups Bauman
He did not drop a Ball
Great Work Chris Proud of You

(9) Jesse Played well again with a Nice Game
The Fumble in the 1st half Hurts us
As We could been ahead at the end of the Half.
Two his Credit Jesse came back in 2ND half and Really Stepped up
He had another 100+ yards game and Two Scores
This Vs The Roughriders Great D.

(10) Turnovers Roughriders won the Turnover Battle
We have to learn not Turn the Ball over
a Fumble here and Int there cost Points this game.

(11) Nick Setta I Like Nick allot he just not as Automatic as Last year
Could it be he is Missing his holder from Last year?
so the Timing is off

(12) We have to learn to close out Games when we have the Lead.
Being Young Team we will learn this
I hope Quickly

Overall allot to Build on the Roar is Back in Tigertown.
Now it is learning When to use it ..
Calgary would be great Time to use it

It will be Short Week for Our Ticats
They Have the Day off Today
Some guys will be in for Treatment of bumps bruises and Pains
But Practice will Be Monday and Tuesday at 11 AM
They Fly out to Cowtown sometime on Wednesday

I am Very Proud Of the Effort of our 2008 Team so Far
Keep it up Guys . Let Bring home a Win in Cowtown

And at this time, it is expected that the temperature is expected to be about 28°C, but it is expected to feel like it is 34°C with the humidity.

you can click here after the game for postgame reactions live on Ticats TV.

Last week, the Ticats proved some critics wrong in defeating the blue team decisively. But can the Ticats keep it up? Will they win this game, and in doing so, win some respect? And win or lose, will these team at least be competitive and be entertaining? Hopefully, the answers to these questions will be "yes" and having said that, I say... Enjoy game

Jeese Win Canadian of The Week but CFL Snubs Ticat Oline.

Hamilton running back Jesse Lumsden was a unanimous pick for the CFL's Canadian player of the week.

He had 189 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries in the Ticats' 32-13 win over the Toronto Argonauts.

What bug me is the Tigercats O-Line had a great game was stub for linemen of week Honours.

Without The O-Line Jessie dose gain a yard

He would be 1st to tell you that .

I just have Real Feeling The Media Hates Hamilton.

Ticats Cut defensive end Marcus Lewis,

From The Hamilton Spec.
Ratio concerns cost a Tiger-Cat rookie a job yesterday. With Canadian Nautyn McKay-Loescher's chronic back woes a continuing concern, they were forced to bring fellow Canuck Jermaine Reid onto the 46-man roster. Goodbye to import defensive end Marcus Lewis, who had been with the club since the start of rookie camp.

After the Game My Late Uncle Charlie Took me down Field To meet Few players
One of Dave Mariler .

To this Day I have not forgot what he told Me.
Do right to others
Always Follow gut
Trust Your self.

This led me on a 30 year Love affair with the CFL and our Tigercats.
Going to as many Ticat Events and Practices as I could .
I have Become a Student of the Game
Breaking down Plays and Learning Every thing I could About CFL Football.
This love going to practices to Learn

A road win but not just any road win.
One vs Toronto

The Ticats Pounded the ball Down Argos throat
As the Offence Ran the ball 41 Times for 311 Yards.
A lot Credit goes to boys up Front the Hoggies or O-line.
Who Open up the holes all day for Ticats Running backs.

The biggest Gains where from all star Burlington Born Jesse Lumsden
He avg a unheard of 9.45 yard per Carry.
Jessie had 20 Carries for 189 and two Majors.

A -lot of the Credit goes to the O-line Again
Coach Jeff Bleamer Boys where Not hogtied tonight
As they Put Argo Defence on it's heals all night
Very Proud of the O-line tonight

But I also saw Something on the Game Tape that made me Really Happy
Wide out and Slotbacks Blocking on Running plays.
Becoming Mini Hoggies.

The Offence Effort was Wonderful to see
As I was at Dome with 2 Friends.
For the 1st time in Ages I left Skydome a Happy Ticat Fan.

The Defence got a Chance to rest with a good Effort from the Offence
It showed as Ticats Defence shut down Argo Running & Passing game.
They Limited the argos to 196 yards passing and just 56 Russing
Getting to the QB 3 Times

There where some mistakes ..
But most where fixed before the Game ended
The halftime Adjustments where well done for a Change.
I still like to see more pass rush from our Tackles on Defence.
also the Special Teams Coverage needs work

But this huge Step Forward for 08 Ticats
Very Pound to be Ticat Fan Today
Thanks boy keep it up

The Roughriders are next
They come to IWS a Week from this Saterday

MCMANUS RETURNS TO TICATS

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that Danny McManus has joined the organization as a coaching consultant.

In his new role, McManus will assist offensive coordinator Marcel Bellefeuille as well as work with the Ticats quarterbacks. McManus previously served as a guest coach during training camp.

“Danny is one of the most popular players in Ticats history, but much more importantly he has a great understanding of the CFL game, and what it takes to win in this league,” said President Scott Mitchell. “The Ticats are very fortunate to be able to add almost two decades worth of CFL expertise and experience to our organization."

McManus played eight seasons with the Ticats, breaking several team passing records including career passing yards (33,841), career touchdown passes (164), career pass completions (2,368) and single season passing yards (5,334). In 1999, he enjoyed his finest season in Black and Gold, earning the CFL Most Outstanding Player award, was named both a CFL and East Division All-Star and was named Most Valuable Player in the team’s 1999 Grey Cup victory.

“After observing Danny in training camp, we believe he is a terrific addition to our coaching staff. His presence provided a positive influence for our quarterbacks and we look forward to him working with our players and staff moving forward,” remarked general manager Bob O’Billovich.
