Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed 2007 CFL All-Star linebacker Zeke Moreno to a new three-year contract and quarterback Richie Williams to a new two-year contract.

“Based on their contributions to this team on the field, in the locker room and in the community, we are pleased that Zeke and Richie will remain key members of the Ticats this season and for the future,” said general manager Bob O’Billovich.

Moreno, a 6-2. 246-pound native of Chula Vista, California, enjoyed a phenomenal debut season in the CFL in 2007, recording a league-leading and team-record 114 defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, one quarterback sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three pass knockdowns and two interceptions.

“As a first year player in the CFL, Zeke established himself as one of the premiere players in the league and solidified himself as a leader in our locker room,” O’Billovich remarked.

Moreno was the Ticats nominee for Most Outstanding Player as well as Most Outstanding Defensive Player and was named a CFL and East Division All-Star.

Williams, a 6-3, 190-pound native of Camden, South Carolina completed 80 of 130 pass attempts for 852 yards and six touchdowns while carrying the ball 32 times for 169 yards in 2007.

“Richie is a talented, young quarterback and a tremendous athlete who fits our offensive situation very well,” said O’Billovich. “His playing style and abilities are similar to Casey Printers, which provides our offence with excellent consistency.”

After signing with Hamilton as a free agent on May 17, 2006, the 24-year-old has completed 97 of 162 pass attempts for 1,093 yards and six touchdowns. He has also recorded 36 rushing attempts for 224 yards.
