CATS SIGN FOUR FROM FLORIDA CAMPHamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed four players who attended their recent free agent camp in Florida. Import linebacker Isaac Brown, import defensive back Virgil Gray, import defensive lineman Elton Patterson and import wide receiver Jacob Willis will take part in training camp after impressing Ticats scouts in the Sunshine State last month.
Brown, a 5-11, 206-pound native of Saginaw, Michigan signed with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons last year after playing four seasons at Central Michigan. Brown registered 207 tackles (97 solo), five quarterback sacks and two interceptions with the Chippewas.
Gray, a 5-10, 180-pound native of Atlanta, Georgia spent last season with af2’s Lubbock Renegades, leading the team with 85.5 defensive tackles and eight interceptions. He played four seasons at the University of Rhode Island, recording 254 tackles, three quarterback sacks and seven interceptions with the Rams.
Patterson, a 6-2, 271-pound native of Tallahassee, Florida was selected in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals after a stellar college career at Central Florida, where he racked up 256 tackles and 31 quarterback sacks. In addition to his time with the Bengals, Patterson has played with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, NFL Europe’s Berlin Thunder and the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League.
Willis, a 5-11, 182-pound native of Champaign, Illinois joins the Ticats after playing two seasons at Illinois. The 24-year-old caught 38 passes for 643 yards and six touchdowns with the Fighting Illini.
The Ticats also announced that the team has released import linebacker Tim Goodwell, import defensive back Rontarius Robinson and import wide receiver Jo Jo Walker.
