BARRENECHEA RETURNS TO HAMILTON
Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed non-import linebacker Agustin Barrenechea.
Barrenechea, a 6-2, 235-pound native of Mardel Plata, Argentina spent the first three and a half seasons (2004-07) of his career with the Ticats until he was dealt to the Edmonton Eskimos on September 11, 2007.
“Agustin is an accomplished player who brings experience, versatility and a hard-nosed style of play to the Tiger-Cats,” said general manager Bob O’Billovich. “His character and leadership will be a welcome addition to our locker room.”
In 72 career games, the Calgary product has recorded 236 defensive tackles, 40 special teams tackles, three quarterback sacks and five interceptions. He led the Eskimos with 68 defensive tackles in 2008.
Barrenechea was originally drafted by the Ticats in the fourth round (30th overall) of the 2003 CFL Canadian Draft.
