CATS BRING THREE RECEIVERS TO TIGERTOWNHamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed import receivers David Ball, Airese Currie and LaShaun Ward.
Ball, a 6-1, 200-pound native of Berlin, Vermont finished an outstanding collegiate career at New Hampshire with 304 receptions, 4,655 receiving yards and 58 touchdowns, setting a new NCAA I-AA touchdown record which was previously held by legendary receiver Jerry Rice. Ball previously spent time on the practice roster of the NFL’s Chicago Bears and New York Jets before joining the Montreal Alouettes in September of 2008.
Currie, a 5-11, 185-pound native of Columbia, South Carolina was selected by the NFL’s Chicago Bears in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. Prior to turning pro, the 23-year-old completed an impressive four-year stint at Clemson, where he earned first-team All-ACC honours in football as a senior and was also a three-time All-ACC sprinter. In 2003, Currie won the NCAA East Regional title in the 100m with a time of 10.29. Currie spent two seasons with the Bears before joining the B.C. Lions’ practice roster in 2007.
Ward, a 6-1, 200-pound native of Pasadena, California spent the past two seasons with the Arena Football League’s Los Angeles Avengers as both a wide receiver and a defensive back, recording 114 receptions for 1,775 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns. The California product has also suited up with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs.
