Ticats All Starts = 3
3 TIGER-CATS EARN SPOT ON EAST ALL-STAR TEAM
Hamilton, Ontario – Earlier today, the Canadian Football League announced the 2008 East and West Division All-Stars. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would like to congratulate defensive back Chris Thompson, linebacker Markeith Knowlton and punter Nick Setta, who were named East Division All-Stars.
Thompson, the Ticats nominee for Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player, finished the 2008 season tied for the league-lead with nine interceptions. The first-year Ticat also recorded 60 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, one fumble recovery and 10 pass knockdowns.
Knowlton led the Ticats with 95 defensive tackles in his first season in Hamilton, while also recording four interceptions – the most by a CFL linebacker. Knowlton also added two quarterback sacks, four forced fumbles, three pass knockdowns and five tackles for losses.
Setta was the CFL's most consistent punter this season, averaging a league-leading 47.4 yards per punt. During the Ticats Week 4 game in Calgary, Setta tied the Ticats record he set last season with a 97-yard punt and would go on to establish the new Canadian Football League single-game punting average record with a mark of 64.7 yards per kick, eclipsing the old record set by former Ticats kicker Paul Osbaldiston in 2002.
The Division All-Stars were selected by 41 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC), the eight CFL head coaches and CFL fans from across the country.
